Review – The Puzzle (Samantha Jamison Mystery Book 1)by Peggy A. Edelheit

Synopsis: Samantha has moved to the Highlands to solve the mystery solve of who killed her husband, Stephen. But once there, she gets caught up in a web of intrigue, lies, old secrets and cover-ups while still trying to finish her latest book by the deadline. She doesn’t know who to trust and ultimately finds out way more than she bargained for.

I somehow ending up reading the 7th book before this one and found it did explain alot about how Samantha meets the other characters. I will have to admit I didn’t enjoy reading this one as much due to it felt like the story was being dragged out as Samantha questioned person after person within the town trying to find the answers to Stephen’s strange behavior and unexpected death. The author does a great job bringing the various characters to life. The commanding  Jack, the professional Mike, the flirt Ben, the immaculate Barbara and the mysterious Clay all know something. In an unexpected twist, Sam starts receiving threatening letters and phone calls.

The story pace was agonizingly slow as Samantha pings pongs from lead to lead not going anywhere. I do think it was a good mystery overall but wished it moved along a little faster. I also realize that in a small town everyone is so used to protecting their own and each other’s secrets it is hard for an someone considered to be an outsider to pry them out. I also think it was an interesting twist for Samantha to find out information about herself as well. Overall, good read for anyone who likes a puzzling mystery filled adventure and suspense.
