What seems nasty, painful, evil can become a source of beauty, joy, and strength, if faced with an open mind. ~ Henry Miller
I work with the girls at my church and we discussed with them empower and confidence. I feel that the two go hand and hand. Empower seems to be the one most misunderstood by people.
Empower (dictionary.com) means : 1. to give power or authority to; authorize, esp. by legal or official means 2. To equip or supply with an ability; enable
It makes me sad to think that so many things that people especially kids should feel empowered to do they do not. Every person should be able to do the right things. I feel that so much time is spent on negative aspects of society that people have become accustomed to failure, deceit, crime, disease and so many more other things. Some of my friends have stated I try to be too positive about things, what if its really they are just being too negative?
In high school, I remember not feeling empowered(authorized) about making good grades and being smart socially. I didn’t want to be labeled a nerd but I had goals that required more than doing the minimum. I tried to fit in by not mentioning I was in honors classes, my grade point average and things like that. A kid trying to fit in doesn’t feel empowered to be who he/she is. That child doesn’t feel confident about his/herself in one area or several areas.
Talking to the girls at my church, made me remember how hard I wanted to fit in. The turning point in my life was when I realized that people will never all approve of everything you do or who you are. You will have supporters and you will have haters. I felt empowered when I realized it was okay to be me because God made me this way. I feel equipped to handle so many challenges because God is there and it gives me confidence to walk with my head high.
One of the fastest way to empower someone is to give him/her knowledge. Eventually that knowledge extends to boosting his/her confidence. I feel that each person has the ability to boost another person sometimes we don’t have to do anything extraordinary. Sometimes we just need to be ourselves. I have learned to never discount your existence because you can make a difference.
